How big is an allotment?
Plots vary in size but the average is 253 sq m.
Half plots are approximately 126.5 sq m.
How much does it cost?
For the current year (October 2010 to September 2011) the total plot rent is £0.26 per square metre.
The concessionary rate is £0.22 per square metre.
Do I need to be an experienced gardener?
No! But it is hard work. Most plotholders will be able to offer advice, as will the site steward on your site. There are a lot of books and magazines about vegetable/fruit gardening. CAA produces a Newsletter for members which has useful articles, and when you rent an allotment your "Welcome Pack" will have some advice for getting started.
What can I grow on my allotment?
Almost anything! Your contract with CBC will have details, but basically it should be kept cultivated and tidy, and used mainly for food crops.
